Obama portraits postscript: looking back

The Obamas in 1996 (photo by Mariana Cook, part of the MFA Lane Collection)

I got some reflected double images when I shot this photo with my Samsung Galaxy 10; those ghostly blurs are NOT part of Mariana Cook’s 1996 shot. But they make me wonder: could this accomplished young couple possibly have imagined what lay ahead for them? Gazing back through the years is always a double exposure, isn’t it?

Good thing we can’t see very far ahead, methinks.

  1. Hi, Georgeann!

That is a fascinating picture! Superimposing the people, the fuzzy Thai rubbings, hands in impossible places? What is the portent do you think? The muddling of clarity, of intent, of hope? Fun! I have to send you one of my accidents if I can find it.

  2. What a wonderful picture!! Life makes me shake my head. Who knows anything? I muddle along. A friend just left. She recently lost a son to drugs and suicide. OMG She tries so hard to keep marching on. She finds comfort in that. And did you know Sarah Marchner in the theatre department?? All full of life and spirit!! Be well!!

    Love, Carol
